God Is ALWAYS Faithful by: Paula McKee
“Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”
When I was in college, I strayed away from weekly church attendance for more years than I’d like to admit. I knew that I should have attended each week. I knew that my life would have been better if I did go. I figured God would forgive me, right? I’d do better next week. Can I get an amen from the church pews from anyone? Anyone? Many people have never had a prodigal period of life, and I admire them greatly. I am not one of those. I am so thankful that God gives grace to those like me who stray. To end this period, I signed up to teach children’s Sunday school. If anything will get you back on the straight-and-narrow, work in children’s ministry will. You will be studying the Word in preparation each week, and you’ll have a reason to show up. If you’re having trouble being faithful, try signing up to work in some capacity. How I must have grieved God when I wasn’t faithful. It saddens me to think about it, but it makes me happy when I think about how He must have celebrated when I returned. Ask me some time about how my faithfulness in teaching Sunday school had a direct impact on my husband’s salvation after years of prayer…but that’s another devotional.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being faithful to me even when I fail You. I pray that You give me strength when I am weak so that I can fully live my life to serve You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Question: Do you stray from God in any areas in your life? Prayer? Service? Worship? Ask Him to reveal to you ways in which you can be used more fully by Him.
